Self-Determination Program(SDP)
Through California’s Self-Determination Program, our BCBAs offer individualized support designed to help individuals achieve greater independence, meaningful engagement, and improved quality of life.
We collaborate directly with individuals, families, and their independent facilitators to develop person-centered strategies aligned with their unique goals. Services may include skill-building in areas such as communication, daily living, social interaction, and emotional regulation, all delivered in the home or community settings.
SDP model gives individuals and their families greater flexiblity, autonomy, and accountability in selecting services and supports that align with the goals outlined in a tailored plan built around their needs.
BCBA Supervision for RBTs
Our team provides structured, BACB-compliant supervision for Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs), delivered by highly experienced BCBAs. Supervision is available in school, home, and community-based settings to ensure contextual relevance and promote skill generalization across environments and can be conducted in-person or via Telehealth.
We emphasize clinical integrity, ethical practice, and competency-based training, aligning with current BACB standards. Our BCBAs offer consistent oversight through direct observation, performance feedback, and collaborative development of behavior intervention strategies. This service is ideal for organizations seeking to enhance the quality and consistency of ABA service delivery through reliable and effective RBT supervision.
Social Connections Play Groups
Groups form around the people on this list.
Social Potential builds small, caregiver-led peer groups. Rather than publishing a fixed schedule and hoping it fits, we gather interest first, then form each cohort around the ages, communication styles, and availability of the families waiting. Three cohorts are taking shape right now, and we are collecting interest for every other age range so we know what to build next.
The process
Three steps, in order
No payment is collected and nothing is committed. Joining the list is not enrollment.
You send a short message
Through our contact page, with the cohort you are interested in and the days that generally work for your family.
We look for a match
Participants are grouped by age and communication profile so peers can genuinely connect with each other. A cohort opens once enough families in one group line up.
We reach out to you
You will hear from SoPo with dates, group size, participation expectations, and the funding options available to your family before you decide anything.
Cohorts forming
Three groups, built around real interest
These are the groups families have asked us for. Placement is based on communication profile and shared goals, not age alone, which is why two of the ranges overlap.
Communicating with ASL, AAC, and emerging speech
Built for early communicators who use sign language, a speech generating device, a picture system, single words, or a mix of all of them. Sessions focus on requesting from a peer, tolerating a peer nearby, taking a turn, and early shared play, with the caregiver coached in the moment. Every adult in the room learns the group's communication methods, so no participant is the only one signing or using a device.
Cooperative play and conversation
For children who use phrases and sentences and are ready to practice with peers. Sessions focus on joining a game already in progress, following group directions, starting and keeping a conversation going, handling a change in plan, and recovering when a game does not go their way.
Community, connection, and self advocacy
An adult group built around the goals young adults name for themselves: asking for what they need, group problem solving, planning and following through on something with a peer, and keeping a friendship going outside a structured setting. Support person participation is arranged individually rather than assumed, and goals are set with the participant, not only about them.
This group meets by telehealth only. Sessions run on a HIPAA compliant video platform, so participants anywhere in California can join, not only the East Bay. Between sessions, participants practice in their own communities with the support they already have in place.
other age Gathering interest Always open
Toddlers, teens, adults over 25, and everyone in between
The three cohorts above exist because families asked for them. If your family member falls outside those ranges, we still want to hear from you. Every inquiry is logged by age and by what you are hoping a group will help with, and when enough families line up in one range, that becomes the next cohort we build.
Tell us the age and the goals even if no group exists yet. That is exactly how each of these started.
In person cohorts meet in San Leandro and in the surrounding community. The young adult cohort meets by telehealth and is open to participants across California.
What a cohort looks like
Caregiver-led, in real settings
Groups run on the N.I.C.E. Framework™ (Naturalistic, Individualized, Collaborative, Evidence-Based). Skills practiced with peers are more likely to carry over into daily life when the caregiver or support person is in the room learning alongside the participant, which is why we ask them to attend.
Eight weeks, small by design
Each cohort runs as an eight week series with a small number of participants so every family gets coaching in the moment.
Attendance at every session
This is a participation model, not a drop-off program. One caregiver or support person stays for the full session and practices alongside the participant.
Center, community, or telehealth
In person cohorts alternate between our San Leandro group space and community outings within roughly a twenty minute radius. The young adult cohort meets by telehealth and is open across California.
English, Cantonese, Vietnamese
Group coaching is available in all three. Tell us your preferred language and we will plan around it.
Set with you, before week one
Priorities are agreed on with each family, and for the young adult group, with the participant directly.
Several possible paths
Private pay, and in some cases commercial insurance, Regional Center, or Self Determination Program funding. Options are reviewed individually. Coverage is never assumed until a payer confirms it.
